A Note from the Coach:
CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON STARTS WITH THE BASICS
July is not for the faint of heart! Between last chance meets, state championships, and regional competitions, athletes are pushing their limits, and that means the basics matter more than ever.
- Sleep: Recovery starts at night. Aim for 8–10 hours of quality sleep to support muscle repair, focus, and performance.
- Hydration: With temps soaring, dehydration can hit fast. Keep a water bottle nearby all day, not just at practice, and replenish electrolytes after hard sets.
- Nutrition: Fuel your body like you expect it to perform. Prioritize whole foods, balanced meals, and post-practice recovery snacks to keep energy high and inflammation low.
- No Shortcuts: Energy drinks and caffeinated beverages are not a replacement for sleep, hydration, or real nutrition. They can mask fatigue, but they don’t fix it, and they can put your health and performance at risk.
Success in July starts with what you do outside of the pool. Take care of the little things. Your performance depends on it!
